Projects We Fund

The Farmington Fuel Bank

The Farmington Community Chest recently took over operation of the Farmington Fuel Bank. The Farmington Fuel Bank provides one-time emergency fuel assistance to Farmington residents. Residents are qualified to receive fuel assistance by the Town of Farmington Social Services Department.

The Farmington Food Pantry

The Farmington Food Pantry provides food and household necessities to individuals who need assistance in the Farmington Valley community. Donations from the Community Chest allowed the Food Bank to start a program called "Bargain Shopper", which allows the pantry to purchase fresh and frozen vegetables and fruits every week

Summer Camp Assistance

Each year the Farmington Community Chest provides over $10,000 in general camp scholarships so that young members of our community may have the opportunity to further their education in the summer learning environment of their choice.

Scholarships

Graduating Seniors who are Farmington/Unionville residents and are experiencing financial need in connection with attending a post-secondary institution or vocational school may apply for scholarships through Farmington High School. Scholarships include our general college scholarships, our vocational scholarships for students attending trade school, and the M. Greg Chellgren R.N. Memorial Scholarship for students interested in nursing or health services.

Services for the Elderly

The Farmington Community Chest provides funds to assist the elderly members of our community. Recently the Community Chest helped fund the creation of a loan closet, where necessary medical equipment such as walkers and wheelchairs can be obtained for a small one-time service fee.

Tunxis Veterans

Each year the Farmington Community Chest allocates funds to assist our returning veterans who are attempting to better their education. This money goes to the Tunxis OASIS program, an initiative created in 2008 to help veterans in their transition back to civilian life.

Farmington Cares Day

Hosted annually in May, Farmington Cares Day is our main opportunity for volunteers to get hands on with helping the community. For three hours on a Saturday morning volunteers work on landscaping, repairs, cleanup, and housekeeping tasks, assisting those in the community who are no longer able to keep up with their daily chores.

Project Graduation

In order to keep young adults in our community safe, the Farmington Community Chest allocates funding each year to help support Farmington High School's Project Graduation. Project Graduation provides a safe and fun night for recent graduates, keeping them out of harms way during what is often a dangerous time.

CERT Canteen

The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is comprised of volunteers trained by FEMA for local emergency response.  The Farmington Community Chest supports the deployment of Emergency Canteen 52, a canteen trailer that will provide vital food and water support for victims and first responders.

Unionville Movie Nights

Every summer we sponsor Family Movie Nights in conjunction with the Unionville Village Improvement Association (UVIA).  A great night outdoors watching your favorite movies with friends and family.
